Ans. Two methods to find the direction of wind:

(a) Take a handful of sand or dust and release it slowly from a height. I which direction the falling sand is moving. This will be the direction of wind.

(b) Tie a thin thread with a stick and keep it at a high place. The direction in which the thread sways shows the direction of wind.

Q. 3. State two experiences that made you think that air exerts pressure (other than those given in the text).

Ans. I have seen paratroopers jumping from aeroplanes with the help of parachute. It helps them in reaching the ground safely. 

The air pressure reduces the speed of the parachute and the paratrooper lands without getting injured on the ground.

Q. 4. You want to buy a house. Would you like to buy a house having windows but no ventilators? Explain your answer.

Ans. A house should have ventilators along with windows. The cold air enterd from windows would rise up after warming and exit from the ventilators. 

This will help in making the rooms comfortable. Without ventilators a room shall not be cooled as efficiently as one with ventilators.

Ans. Banners and hoardings are usually very large. The air pressure of moving air can blow away the banners. 

Holes are made in banners and hoardings so that the wind can move easily through them. These holes helps in reducing the impact of air pressure on the hoardings to check blown away.

Ans. I will take following steps to help my neighbours in case of cyclone:

* I will tell them about the cyclone and help them in reaching to a safer place.

* I will try to organize a community kitchen during the calmity period.

* I have learnt the first aid so I will provide first aid to injured people.

* I will try to arrange safe drinking water for the people.

* I will try to keep the environment clean around us.

Ans. Following planning is required to deal with the situation created by a cyclone:

* Proper shelters should be built to face the cyclone. 

* We will take the help from government agencies so that people can be accommodated in them.

* Construction of safe cyclone shelters and making arrangement for moving people to safer places for safely during cyclone.

* Keep an emergency kit ready every time with emergency medicines and check them time to time.

* Facilities themselves for cyclone prediction and forecasting network like T.V. and radio to get warning in advance.

* Store enough food and food items in waterproof bags.

* Store safe drinking water in safe place because contaminated water can cause diseases.

* Do not go near the sea after getting the warning of cyclone.

* Keep phone numbers of emergency services like police, hospital, friends and relatives ready.
